Carnival

Declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia (February/March). Declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia (Official Bulletin of the Junta de Andalucía of September 16, 2008).

The Carnival has been and is currently the most outstanding and deep-rooted festival in Bornos in which the people are the main protagonist. Its defining elements are given by the widespread use of costumes and masks, as well as the presence in the streets of groups, such as chirigotas, comparsas, or a special type of murga that is native to Bornos.

The town's carnival was one of the few to survive censorship, which is why it is so deeply rooted and preserves so many traditions. The costumes, groups and gastronomy will make up an extensive program in which you can enjoy, among other events, the "popular black pudding".

Two weeks before the festival, the Peña Carnavalesca de Bornos organizes the “Morcillá Popular”. Beer and black pudding can be tasted for free while the groups participating in the party present their songs. A provincial level contest is held every year in the assembly hall of the Corpus Christi Convent. Groups from all over the area participate. In any act of the contest you can enjoy an atmosphere of genius and magic.

The most spectacular and sensational day of the Bornos Carnival takes place on the second weekend of the same (after Ash Wednesday) on the so-called Piñata Sunday, the day on which the Parade is celebrated with a parade of floats, masks, costumes, in which Bornos displays ingenuity, originality, humor and fantasy and during which the participants compete for the best costume.

An ancient, traditional Carnival, full of fun, joy and colour.
